We aim to approve Nature`s own existential rights to be and to develop further according to its kind!
Actually, Nature is regarded as an object within the legal systems. An object has no own rights to exist but is deemed to be of profit for others. On the other hand, humans or economic corporations are recognised as subjects. So, Nature has no chance for legal standing against private, public and economic interests. Mass extinction and destruction of the natural world are the consequences.
Therefore, we aim to implement the Rights of Nature in the legal systems.
Nature is to be approved as a legal person on its own!
This represents a fundamental shift from viewing nature as property to recognising it as a rights-bearing entity and enabling more effective protection of our shared environment.
Humans are part in the net of life on our planet. A community of beings is transforming each other and depending on each other in an ever-ongoing process. Rights of Nature will thus follow the community of life between humans and nature and will constitute the corresponding legal community.
The legal person may cover ecosystems like rivers, woods or moors with all their living beings, like animals, plants or mushrooms. Citizens or nature conservation organisations can act as guardian and enforce nature`s rights in court.
The path to the Rights of Nature is possible and has already been entered by Spain, when setting up legal standing for the Mar Menor in 2022.
You as European citizen can be part in such a hopeful process of transformation by signing this European Citizen Initiative (ECI)!
When reaching one million signatures across member states according to their population our goal will be discussed and considered by the European Commission and Parliament and find its way into law.
Please support the Rights of Nature by distributing this European Citizens Initiative into your communities. Thank you!
